Emptyage: Generation X Doesn't Want to Hear It →
Earlier generations have weathered recessions, of course; this stall we’re in has the look of something nastier. Social Security and Medicare are going to be diminished, at best. Hours worked are up even as hiring staggers along: Blood from a stone looks to be the normal order of things “going…

Indian summer
Last weekend I drove the minivan to Ohio for Lynn. Her old favorite, Stinky, is finally on its last legs so she needed a new one. I got to visit my cousin, Monica, and her husband, Dave. He has leukemia and has spent months going through aggressive therapy. This week he gets tested to see the results. Hopefully they will look good and he can go back to work next week. I got to meet my friend...

Indian Summer at the American Royal
A week ago I traveled to Kansas City to see my brother Paul and Jeff. It was cold and dreary when I left Pittsburgh and even worse when I returned but warm and sunny in KC. We went to the American Royal which is the largest BBQ competition in the country. It was massive, located where the stockades used to be. Saturday we toured the new performing arts center. It is a very impressive...

WatchWatch
Watch it before the FBI gets it pulled.  I wish our elected officials could actually do their jobs without behaving like grade schoolers.

And then there were three
We lost another PE at work today. Now there are only three of us. Rumor has it we have three new projects and I am expected to run them all plus the two I already have. How the fuck is that supposed to happen?

How to kill Netflix in three easy steps
It appears Netflix’ CEO Hastings is taking notes from hp’s CEO Apotheker. Killing hp in fifteen easy steps took too long so Hastings wants to kill Netflix in three. First he let Starz walk away from the bargaining table taking most of the good streaming content with them. Then he doubled the price of most users’s plans. Finally he is breaking Netflix into a sucky streaming...

Cold Capming
I went camping this weekend with Scott. It was freaking cold for September. I had a lot of fun though. It was like fall. I am done camping now for the season.

I had a nice trip to St. Louis over the weekend. Friday night we had a family dinner. We had about twenty people there. I was happy my niece, Emily, was there so I could hear about her college plans and my brother, Paul, drove in to visit too. My nephew / godson, Brad, and his wife Courtney announced they are expecting in the spring. Does that make me a grand of some sort? My friends started...

Earthquake
We just had an earthquake. It originated in Virginia. It was a 5.9. I am at work and heard the windows creak then felt the building sway. At first it seemed lie a big gust of wind hits a house but then it occurred to me our building should not move. It continued to sway for about ten seconds.

Presence
I had friends over last night for dinner.  It was a beautiful night to grill and eat outside.  They enjoyed the lamb chops and this time no one made fun of my sweet potatoes.  It’s a running joke.  I made a german chocolate cake which is my favorite.   I bought myself a Galaxy Tab.  The lack of Flash on the iPad kept me from buying one.  I really want it to be a replacement for my...

Summer
I have spent the summer trying to keep myself busy.  I went through a difficult break up in May, even though I was the one to do the breaking up.  It was still painful. I went to Pensacola to visit Benj and Lima in June.  I had fun sitting at the beach all weekend. I have gone camping a few times.  I ran to Ohio to visit family.  My Aunt Gail lost her battle with cancer.  I went there to visit...
